Rachel Schallom

I am an award-winning newsroom leader and strategist with a passion for managing teams, developing and refining content strategies and growing audiences.

I am the managing editor at VICE. I have previously worked at the Wall Street Journal, Fusion, the Sun Sentinel, the Los Angeles Times and the Huntsville Times.

I write a biweekly column for Poynter’s The Cohort, a newsletter tackling the issues impacting women in journalism. I was a member of the 2016 ONA-Poynter Leadership Academy for Women in Digital Media class.

I also curate a newsletter highlighting interesting things happening in digital journalism and have been an adjunct professor teaching coding for journalism students. I have spoken at national and international conferences and am dedicated to making journalism a more equal place for women to work.

I block out time on Fridays to chat with women and people of color in journalism. We can talk about building and leading teams, job hunting and kinder hiring practices, refining digital strategies, communicating effectively or anything else you want to talk about.
